This is the online portfolio of Simon Jones Architect. It contains all types of projects: not just architectural work but also furniture, products, graphic design & records of events / workshops / shows.

Background

Simon Jones was born in East Yorkshire in 1976 and undertook his BA Hons in Architecture at the University of Newcastle-upon-Tyne. Since completing his postgraduate studies at the University of North London in 2001, he has worked for two of the UK’s most respected practices: Tony Fretton Architects & 6a Architects (refer to WORK IN PRACTICE section for further details), before setting up his studio in 2010 to focus on developing his own projects & commissioned works.

Design work

Alongside working as an architect, Simon has always maintained an interest in a broader spectrum of design. For the past ten years, he has designed & made furniture in parallel & established a reputation outside of his architectural work. Recent clients include Design for London, Studio Ilse, Wood Finch Rare Books & Studio Voltaire. He is now currently involved in a variety of furniture, interiors and architectural products & regularly collaborates with other designers & architects including Daniel Eatock, Michael Marriott, 6a Architects and Valerie Tse.

He has exhibited in London as well as other cities in the UK, Cologne & New York, and was shortlisted for best newcomer at the Salone Satellite at the Milan Furniture Fair. See here for more details.

Teaching

Simon is a design studio tutor for Studio 5 with James Payne & Nina Lundvall at London Metropolitan University, & regular visiting critic at other institutions including Kingston University & the University of East London. He has given talks at the British Council, Ravensbourne, Kingston University & London Metropolitan University.
