Artists Studios at Holton Lee Centre for Disability in the Arts, Poole, Dorset

Project Architect for Tony Fretton Architects. Completed 2005

This forms the third phase of works within a masterplan for the Holton Lee estate near Poole in Dorset, home to a charitable arts, environmental & disability organisation.

The project was conceived specifically for use by disabled artists and entailed the conversion of a small agricultural building into four studio spaces connected to shared common facilities by a covered walkway. The existing asbestos roof of the neglected stable-block was stripped away to leave the brick envelope, inside which a new concrete slab was poured to provide the base for a structural timber frame within. A small extension was placed at one end, & a new roof structure with a series of large saw-tooth rooflights was added.
